Moving forward with new management and a new feel in life. I am Anthony Coleman aka Mul-Ty. Almost twenty years ago I wrote a top ten wedding song called Looking For Love . Not knowing 20 years later, I would never get paid my royalties or publishing for it. I guess you can say here's another one those stories of an artist saying he was ripped off. Well, the difference with my story is, I was actually ripped off, and until this day, I still am. I was signed to an independent label who later stuck a deal on my behalf with a major label. I never saw a dime of that money. I was given a car and house, but neither was in my name and was later taken from me. Then the label used the money to promote a new band they had signed that had nothing to do with the deal, putting my project on the self. Eventually, I was done, so I called the major label and told them I wanted out of my contract. They let me out, but I had no idea it would be that they can keep my publishing for life for that album. I was able to make a living by writing for and with other artists. I remember co-writing Good Enough with Edwin McCain . I had to be about 20 yrs old. The song was inspired by a heartfelt conversation I shared with Edwin about dealing with racism growing up in south Georgia. I shared that story with him about performing in a country bar where I wasn't welcome to stay after my performance. Its a line in the song that goes, "I'm good enough to play but not to stay."
Recently I was invited to Greenville SC to re-record Good Enough , and this time Edwin ask me to join him and sing it together. I thought the message and timing were perfect due to the current state of America. Recording this song with Edwin revived me musically because I had lost my inspiration after tragically losing my 7yrs old son in an unfortunate car accident 2017. My life was on a downward spiral, and I lost a lot during these times. I was broken mentally and spiritually, and I questioned myself if I would ever make music again. After arriving in Greenville, I was meet with a smile of an old friend. While recording, the words of the song resonated and filled the room with emotions from both of us. I was reminded of the importance of creating music from the heart and that it was bigger than us. So today, my present is more significant than in my past. I have a new motivation and an apparent purpose. I need to get back to the studio and record. I need the world to hear my heart . I promise your donations won't go to the lifestyle of an artist. I'm ready to pin a new album of love and healing, something that we can all use right now.
Thank You, Mul-Ty
