Help Bring Alex Home

Our dear friend, fellow artist, and cherished member of our photography community, Alexander Bordeaux, is in urgent need of our help.

Last Tuesday, April 1st, at around 6 a.m., Alex's life was turned upside down. While peacefully sleeping at home in Kars, Ontario with his beloved dogs and cats, he was awakened by loud noises outside. When he looked out the window, he saw three RCMP cruisers and two unmarked SUVs outside his home. Moments later, officers were at his door.

Without warning or explanation, Alex was presented with a search warrant and told he was under arrest due to an "immigration issue." Confused but cooperative, Alex was taken into custody.

What followed was nothing short of terrifying. Before he was driven across the border to the United States, and handed over to U.S. Border Services; Canadian RCMP and Immigration interrogated Alex for over three hours and seized both his passport and wallet—he was only allowed to keep one financial card.

Alex, 70 years old, has been a Canadian citizen since 2003. He moved here from New Jersey, built his life in Canada, and has never had any legal issues. He’s spent the last two decades building a peaceful, quiet life—focusing on photography, sharing love and laughter with his partner and close friends, and simply enjoying the small joys of life.

Now, he’s alone in a motel room in Massena, New York, unable to access his online banking, with dwindling funds and no clear answers. His only lifeline is his Visa card, and it’s almost maxed out. He can’t return home unless he “reapplies” for Canadian citizenship—a baffling and devastating blow to someone who has lived legally in Canada for over 20 years.

To make matters worse, Alex depends on medication to stay healthy, and thanks to a caring friend, his prescriptions are on their way to him. But with no passport, no stable address, and no means of support, every passing day becomes more frightening.

Alex is scared. He’s tired. And he needs us.
