Kades Chemo Journey (Bcell lymphoblastic leukemia)
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Destinee & I’m raising funds because my two year old son, Kade was recently diagnosed with B-ALL Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
- January 18th 2024 Kade was admitted to the children’s hospital in Neenah, WI for low oxygen due to having RSV. Since we got released from the hospital Kade still hasn’t walked. I asked his pediatrician & she summed it up to “he’s more than likely traumatized from being in the hospital for a week & just needs to be close by mom.”
- The week of March 11th, 2024 I had been in contact with Kades pediatrician about little dots on his legs&a fever was told it was probably due to his fever spiking fast plus the dots started fading so I thought probably so. Than a few days later I woke up, went to check on Kade & noticed the dots were now on his face & his left eye had alot on them as well.
- After seeing the dots on his face I quickly bathed Kade, got him dressed & drove him to the ER at children’s hospital in Neenah. They ended up transporting Kade via ambulance to children’s hospital in Milwaukee. I had to drive my vehicle because it was only me & I needed a vehicle down there to get us home, I didn’t think we’d be down here long.
- My son made it to the hospital one hour before me & when I got there they sat me down & told me everything is pointing to leukemia. I broke down. My world stopped. I felt numb and I still do. I asked if there was any chance it’s something else & they said “they don’t want me to think it’s something else & get my hopes up but we would have an actual diagnosis&treatment plan after a spinal tap, bone marrow biopsy” they scheduled it for Monday March 18th, 2024.
- March 16th, 2024 Kade ended up needing two blood transfusions one in the early morning&one later that evening. He also ended up getting a platelet transfusion that day.
- Monday(3/18) morning I was told they had to reschedule his biopsy & lumbar puncture because we were waiting on the BLOOD SMEAR results from the specialist.
- 3/18 3 pm I was told his smear test came back & they diagnosed Kade with B-ALL acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Kade would also need a port placed for chemotherapy.
- 3/19/24 7 am Kade got his daily CBC draw & his platelets were still low so they did another platelet transfusion.
- 3/19/24 9:35 AM Kade was taken to OR. Had his biopsy, lumbar puncture, port placement and his first time getting his chemo drug administered.
- 3/19/24 11:40 AM they finished in OR & woke him up, they did have to go in both his left and right hip for the biopsy because the first time they tried they couldn’t get much out.
Kade will be going back & forth to Milwaukee for his chemotherapy for at least the next three years. We have 3 phases his INDUCTION stage which is estimated to last a month, INTENSIVE stage should last at least 9 months, MAINTENANCE stage which will last at least a year and a half.
We will be going to Milwaukee twice a week starting out. Kades bone marrow was 90 percent “bad cells” hence the reason he stopped walking, it was causing him pain.
There’s A LOT of medications Kade needs to take & he doesn’t do well with taking medications whatsoever & he’s starting to not eat much at all. So there has been talk of a NGTUBE. His doctor came in this evening 03/22/24 & said if he doesn’t improve on taking his meds in the next 2 days we’re gonna have to go the NGTUBE route because he hasn’t been getting half of his dose at times (its twice daily)& its a very important part of his treatment. As of now we should be getting discharged Tuesday 03/26/24 IF he remains fever free, doesn’t need the NGtube AND IF AFTER his lumbar puncture he does well (that’s another spinal tap)
3/23/2024 Kade ended up getting another platelet transfusion as his was at “9” (normal is 150-450)
As of right now I’m doing this fundraiser to maintain my vehicle & ensure my son has a safe way to & from his apts, hotels as needed when we can’t get into the Ronald McDonald’s house & when Kades feeling weak - Id rather not rush him down there the day of or the night before or if he’s feeling to sick for the drive after, Kades comfort & his peace is my priority. I don’t want him to feel my stress, my nervousness, my doubt. Funds are also going to be used for daily living expenses as Kades care is going to be a full time job the doctor said. I lost my job in December & I just had to turn down a job offer while I was in the hospital. It really does take a village.
(Headed to the OR)
(Hospital has iPads for the patients that are inpatient)
(this was in October of 2023-he was walking)
