Help Kona Fight Leukemia

Hey everyone! I am making this gofundme for someone who is very special to me. My aunt Kona is the closest thing I have to a sister. At five years old she saw me on the day I was born and since then we have been inseparable. She has stood by my side as a friend and confidant.

All who are blessed to meet Kona know of her generosity, compassion, and above all, her loyalty. Together we have endured both the best and worst of times. Today, she is at her lowest which is why I have decided to make this gofundme as a means to rally for what I believe to be a great and deserving cause. Kona needs our help to raise funds for her medical bills which exceed $10,000.

Kona is currently suffering from Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia also known as CML. CML is a very rare form of cancer that starts in certain blood-forming cells of the bone marrow. The average age at diagnosis of CML is around 64 years. Almost half of cases are diagnosed in people 65 and older. At a young 24 years of age it is rare for Kona to have this type of cancer.

As CML can go undetected over a great period time, Kona received the news during the first trimester of her pregnancy with her first child. The journey of a pregnancy is supposed to be filled with joy and excitement. Yet, for our family it was exhausting and nerve racking. Kona could not start her chemotherapy treatment until after her baby was born. With countless visits to the doctors and so much uncertainty there was always a constant concern for the baby’s well being well as Kona’s.

On March 14th, Kona gave birth to my beautiful niece Harmoneigh, 3 weeks earlier but perfectly healthy. Kona was finally able to start her chemotherapy for CML and treatment for low iron which was good as her WPC was over 100. Unfortunately for Kona, she will most likely always have CML as it is not curable but with medication it is manageable. Both Kona and her husband Danny are working ( Kona working 30 hours a week and Danny working full time 40+) while taking care of now 4 month old daughter. Regardless of how tiring it must be to balance new motherhood, work, and the chemotherapy; Kona is always cheerful and gracious to those near her, never mentioning the enormous debt in medical bills that continues to grow.

If you feel led to give, please know that this money raised will be used for Kona’s medical bills. Continue to lift up Kona and her little family in prayers and most importantly share.
