Help Hilda

I adopted Hilda over two years ago. Her rescuers in the Philippines showed up at the exact moment she was going to be euthanized. By the time Hilda arrived at the rescue, she was truly just skin and bones and scared of the world. I adopted her a short time after and she flew to Canada. Her spirit was completely broken and everything frightened her. The first week I had to carry Hilda up and down the stairs so that she could go to the bathroom. We had to spend time learning about and getting used to everyday things like stairs doorways and mirrors. Hilda was so scared she didn't let anyone (but me) touch her for 3 months. We only managed to walk through alleyways for first 6 months. We've been going to a dog club every Sunday to practice walking on the sidewalk near other dogs and humans. She has worked so hard and improved so much since coming here. I can now see how much she wants to enjoy life even if in small bursts at a time.

Over this last year Hilda has blossomed and bloomed into a beautiful happy dog who loves to run on the beach and hike and learn new things. She is the sweetest grumpy baby I have ever known. She has been getting curious and excited about discovering new things and and has so much love for her chosen humans. She is my first dog, my craft buddy, my bookstore partner and beach day gremlin. To me, Hilda is perfect and she is everything.

Last Wednesday (May 29th) I was woken up by Hilda in the early morning. She could barely stand, was uncontrollably drooling, urinating, and had no idea who I was. I rushed Hilda to the emergency vet at 6am on May 29 and she has been hospitalized ever since. The vets say that there is something wrong with her liver and it is unable to make its own glucose. It is worsening and possibly failing. The vets are unsure of the cause as of Friday, May 31, but speculate it could be an infection, virus, ingestion of toxic materials, or abnormal growth (which would require invasive surgery). Because of this, she is stuck in the hospital, and the costs continue to rise. Setting aside the costs of tests (some upward to $4000), simply having Hilda stay at the vet overnight costs $1700 each day.

I have drained my own savings trying to save Hilda. When the vet looks at you and asks "is this price okay?" how can I possibly assign a dollar value to Hilda's life? Any little bit of money donated would help an incredible help. I am out of money to save her.

I just cant let her die. All money raised will go to her vet bills.
