Hi all, my name is Meag and I’m here to ask for help raising funds for my partner Henry’s gender affirming top surgery. Top surgery has been proven to reduce psychological stress and improve overall mental health. It also means he will no longer have to wear a binder. Like many trans men, Henry wears a binder to minimize the appearance of his chest before surgery, and he has been doing so for over ten years. While binding is very effective in practice, it also comes with serious risks including difficulty breathing, chest and back pain, and even possible long-term rib damage. Surgery will allow Henry to simultaneously not have to wear a binder and feel comfortable in his appearance, providing the safest long-term option.

While we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to save up some of the funding ourselves, there are a lot of additional costs that come along with it: recovery time, post-surgery items, follow up visits, and medical supplies.

The biggest expense we face aside from the surgery itself is Henry being unable to work for at least 2 months while he heals. Your donations would help us with rent, student loan payments, any unforeseen medical bills that may come our way, and allow me the flexibility in my work schedule to care for him.
