Life Changing Chance

Hello! My name is Alexandria Easter, a 22 year old college student who, like many, suffered a sexual assault at a young age. This trauma still effects my life in many ways. One being that I suffer from PTSD. For those who don't know what PTSD, it's mental health disorder that some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, like combat, a natural disaster, a car accident, or sexual assault (US Department of Veterans Affairs). With this disorder comes crippling anxiety, nightmears, flashbacks and insomnia. My PTSD cause me to have panic attacks that disrupt and intrude on my everyday life. I have lost the passion for what I once loved and I continue to isolate myself. I go trough life looking through something called a "trauma lens". This causes me to be Hypervigilant to triggers which remind me of my past. This causes paranoia and difficultly regulating my emotions. Many times people with PTSD struggle with depression. I am no different. I am prey to my suicidal ideations and self harm. Three times I became the victim to these urges but by the grace of God, I survived. Throughout the past nine years, I have struggled to find the perfect treatment team and the proper medication regiment. Slowly but surely I found the best God could give me. Something still wasn't right so I started researching for more tools to add to my tool box and I found Psychatric Service Dog (PSD). These dogs are specifically trained to assist an individual or perform tasks to help someone who has been disabled by severe mental health issues and these dogs can be specialized for someone with PTSD. The dog can go with me outside the house which reduces reclusiveness and I will be able too successfully run errands and attend school. The dog will wake me when I have nightmears. Distract me from scratching myself when I get anxious. The dog will medication to me on command or when alerted to do so by a timer/alarm. This will assure that I continue to be probably medicated. The dog will stand in front of or circle me in crowded areas in order to create personal space in a non-aggressive manner. This will help me better navigate crowds. When the dog detects that I am having anxiety, it will apply deep pressure which will bring the anxiety down and not cause a panic attacks. I plan on working with the facility called STL Huggs. It will cost $2000 to owner train my dog and work with the best trainers in St. Louis, my dog will cost $600, $400 for the first vet visit and the neutering proceeder, $400 for the puppy supplies, and the rest is going to saving for future training and vet bills. I would love your help with this!
