Help us Build our Caravan Sanctuary

I’m Mikayla — a single mum to my 11-year-old boy, and a woman who chose to break a cycle that almost destroyed me.

In 2019, I left an eight-year abusive relationship. It shattered me in every possible way, but leaving saved my life. For nearly seven years, I’ve been slowly rebuilding — healing, choosing myself, and choosing the kind of life my son truly deserves.

The truth is, leaving didn’t mean all the struggles disappeared. I worked long weeks, paid off debt and family court fees, and tried to create stability from scratch. And when my parents sold their home in 2024, we suddenly had nowhere to go. Instead of collapsing, I trusted the path in front of me and stepped into full-time house-sitting with nothing but our suitcases, our car, and faith that somehow it would work.

We’ve been house-sitting for over a year now, moving every 2–5 weeks. We housesit for no charge in exchange for free ans safe accommodation for me and my son.

It’s been a blessing in so many ways — but the instability takes a toll. With the cost of living and the ongoing housing crisis, this lifestyle has genuinely kept us from homelessness… but it’s still not a long-term solution.

That’s why I’ve been working toward getting a safe, reliable caravan we can call home.

A caravan would give us stability while still allowing us to housesit, explore, and learn. It would give my son a consistent space for his belongings, somewhere to rest, grow, and feel safe. It would also allow us to stay on rural properties so he can learn hands-on skills as part of our homeschooling journey.

This isn’t a holiday dream — it’s our long-term housing plan.

I’ve worked incredibly hard for it, too. In late 2024, I saved enough to upgrade to a vehicle capable of towing safely. I’ve already saved $24k toward the caravan through strategic budgeting, sacrifice, and careful planning. But with the high cost of living — and because we need something safe, high-quality, and built to last — I’m still short of what I need.

Buying an old, cheap van to renovate isn’t realistic. Moving every few weeks, homeschooling full time, parenting solo, and working on my online income streams means I don’t have the hours, tools, or stable conditions to safely take on a renovation. I need something solid, reliable, and ready to live in — something that will be meticulously maintained and last us for years.

And this year, something beautiful is happening:

My partner, Troy, is coming to Australia for the first time so we can finally meet in person.

Troy is a disabled combat veteran who is currently fighting Stage 4 lung cancer. His treatment is intense — chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and recently completing targeted brain radiation — and he relies on limited disability support. Despite everything, he remains strong, hopeful, and deeply supportive. Our relationship has grown across oceans through messages, video calls, and a lot of love.

Having a caravan means Troy will have a place to stay when he visits, and we’ll finally get to explore WA together — Wave Rock, Esperance, Albany, Busselton Jetty, and the beauty of the southwest. Nothing extravagant… just memories that matter during the hardest chapter of his life.

I’m hoping to raise enough to bridge the final gap so I can secure our caravan and give my son — and myself — the stability we’ve been working toward for years.

Any support — donating or sharing — means more than you know.
