Aunt Lu's Cancer Journey

UPDATE:

Dear Friends and Family:

Happy New Year!  I figure today would be a great day to share with you some very good news about our Aunt Lu’s Health Journey!  Yesterday, she was released from Palliative Care, which means she no longer requires in-home visits from nurses and/or her Doctor.  She finished her last round of chemo November 4th after receiving 5 intense infusions.  She also received more good news this past month that her retinas have stopped bleeding (a side effect from the Hyper Viscosity Syndrome she got simultaneously with the Waldenstroms diagnosis).  She is also recovering nicely from an extensive blood clot she got in her arm that went from her wrist (the infusion site) to her shoulder. All the  extensive treatments for this condition, 21 days in the hospital, and many, many Doctor visits and blood tests have worked in restoring her health.    She will continue to do the 8 hour antibody infusions every two months for the next two years as “maintenance!”  The illness she endured is considered “controlled” and she will be monitored closely for the rest of her life.

We are so grateful for all the love, support, and encouragement you have given our Aunt and our entire family as we are still grieving the loss of dear Grandma Barb and our amazing Papa Frank!  We are finding comfort and peace in knowing they are back together in Heaven – watching over us!  On top of losing her parents this past year, our Aunt also suffered the loss of a very close friend, whom she was with just 40 minutes before she was murdered.  Unfortunately, the trial was this summer when our Aunt was in the hospital and she was unable to help testify against the person who took such a beautiful life from this earth.  She also lost a very dear and beautiful soul that was like a Grandmother to her over this past Christmas weekend – her dear sweet Beverly was given 90 wonderful years on this earth – and our Auntie feels so blessed to have another wise and loving angel watching over her!   She continues to focus on the time she got to spend with each and everyone who has left us this past year – and she knows that she has just gained so many new angles that will guide her through this next year and for the rest of her life!

Thanks again for everything you have given to our family and for the financial support you gave to our Auntie to cover all the medical expenses, alternative treatments, and loss of income due to this illness.  Your love and support are felt very deeply and your prayers continue to bringing healing and strength of our Aunt Lu – THANK YOU!!

We love you,

Her nieces - Helena, Anya, Mallory, Melissa, Sydney, and nephew Sam

ORIGINAL POST:

2020 has brought a lot of challenges to many of us, especially to our dear Aunt Lu!  This past June she was diagnosed with a very rare form of bone marrow cancer, Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia and Hyper Viscosity Syndrome.  This diagnosis took us all by surprise.

She has always been our supporter and there for us throughout our entire lives, and now we are doing our best to return what she has given to us. She has spent 21 days in the hospital since the end of June and has received several treatments to help her fight this disease.  As you all know, the bills don’t stop coming in every month and our current health care system doesn’t provide for the best medical coverage.

We are working to help her get back on her feet and keep kicking ass as a small business owner,  the powerhouse of our family, and to help her cover alternative treatments for this rare and serious diagnosis. In order to do so, we are asking anyone and everyone for your prayers, positive thoughts, and a possible donation to help her champion through this difficult time.
