Saving Josh

This is a photo what Josh looks like now and what he's always looked like. We are hopeful with help Josh can get back to his sweet happy self. Josh's cognitive decline is significant, but we still get glimpses of the old Josh. He also has lost 20lbs. It's so heartbreaking.
My name is Michelle. I am raising money for my son Josh. Josh is a beautiful human who has been diagnosed with 1p36 Deletion Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Autism. Now that Josh is 21, and in the adult world of medicine he has been denied treatment from many doctors and even hospitals.

For the past 4 months we have been living in an unbelievable horror story. Josh started to have seizures again after not having any for several years. We went to the hospital, and the doctor said we can't treat him because he will be violent towards the nurses. Josh is one of the most loving humans you will ever meet. He has never been unkind or violent towards anyone. The doctor stereotyped him, because he has special needs. The seizures continued we took him to another hospital they said we will monitor him for tonight, but we don't treat this population. Josh had another seizure the paramedics took him to the closest hospital, because they thought he had a stroke. They to said we don't treat this population. We finally got him to a prestigious hospital in this area where the specialist refused to treat him.

This is unbelievable, but apparently the medical community feels like they found a gray area when it comes to individuals with special needs who are transitioning from pediatric to adult care. Even though the law is clear if they accept their insurance they most treat them the doctors are saying I'm sorry he has pediatric needs, so the adult side says they are not trained in pediatric needs and the pediatric side says we don't treat adults.

Josh started to have nosebleeds that gush for hours followed by a seizure. He is anemic, close to needing a blood transfusion, he has dangerous levels of ammonia in his system, caused by seizure medicine. The doctors and hospitals see this, but are not treating.

There have been a few doctors that have pulled me aside and told me it's critical I need to find him help, but they can't help. Friends who are doctors, nurse practictioners, and nurses that tell me his labs look bad, and without care soon he will go into a comma, have irreversible brain damage or die.

We are packing our bags and headed out of state as soon as we have medical transportation. I am leaving my job (our only income). Josh's insurance does not work out of state. We are leaving everything behind to get him medical help to save him.

We are headed to one of two states we are just waiting to see which takes him first.

We will be paying for medical transportation, hospitalization, and relocation. I know we need more than $25,000, but this is a start.

Please help save Josh.
