Hi there,
My name is Haley and I'm the owner of Liberty Farm Dogs. The second week of September I received a call from Animal Control in Bernards Twp. regarding a special case named Rebel. Rebel is a German Shephard that was abandoned in our own community at Lyons Park three months ago. Several attempts were made to contact the owner and he turned out to be a retired veteran who just didn't have the means or understanding of what to do with Rebel. Rebel is currently in the control of the town and being boarded at a kennel that was keeping him under lock down 24 hours a day. As many know German Shepherds are working breed dogs that need exercise and structure to thrive. The conditions he's in are so stressful for this poor guy that we don't even know his full potential. What we do know is he loves people he's very sweet and he's got a huge capacity to learn. That being said we want to get him into the right place to set him up for a future in a loving environment and not end up on a kill list.
Currently I am sending walkers daily to get him out for an hour for some freedom and love. But we want to get him to a board and train that can really work with a dog who's had zero training, socialization and care in his life. We have found a trainer called The Discipline Dog Trainer who is willing to work with Rebel for a nominal fee for his services. This is an amazing opportunity for this dog so that he can comfortable foster and find his forever home.
He is one of our own in this community and I think we have an obligation to care for our community members, including those who served our country. Respectfully we are looking to support Rebel and understand that not every owner has the understanding of what a working breed dogs needs are. Let's step up for Rebel!
* on a side note I was contacted Monday after rebel had been in this kennel for the past three months. I came out immediately and assessed the situation deeming it unfit for any dog let alone a working breed pure bred German. We don’t have a history, the owner was reluctant to speak with anyone but we have brought him to a vet he’s up to date on shots and vax and currently and his hips and health are in great condition. I’ve reached out to rescues and will continue to and I’m looking for fosters, or forever homes but I’m currently trying to make the quickest possible move for him because the conditions are so stressful where he is right now. If anyone has any questions please reach out.
