Cancer Sucks - Christine Rathbun
What do you do when your worst fear is realized?
I was raised in a family that always does for others. We were taught to give help and not askfor it. A couple years ago my sister had a spot on her foot, she later found out that it was melanoma. She had it removed. Things don’t always go as we hope. My sister, Christine has stage four, metastatic melanoma. Repeatedly, her treatments have not gotten the results we would have hoped. She travels from Pensacola to MD Anderson in Texas for treatments. She has had to take time off from her job as an elementary school teacher, she has had to navigate travel, hotels, treatments, substitutes, and everything else that goes along with such a crappy diagnosis. She has handled everything in stride and has not asked for help. I have seen her battle increase in intensity, and now, facing her most recent results, I know her emotional and financial burden has simply soared. So, what do you do when your worst fear is realized? You reach out to people who have seen her give (endlessly) to others, you reach out to those to whom she has given so much and ask for help. Please, let us allow Chris to focus on healing and remove some of the financial burden that comes with cancer. We will overcome- she will beat this. Cancer sucks!!
