From wife of Davinder Singh..

We are working to lay Davinder to Rest After Tragic Workplace Shooting at North Battleford, Saskatchewan. “A gentle soul lost to senseless violence, a bright light that extinguished.”

It is with the heaviest hearts and complete disbelief that we share the news of the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved brother Davinder on March 13, 2026. While he was simply doing his job as a cab driver to provide for his family, Davinder was senselessly shot and killed. Our family is drowning in sorrow.

Davinder was born in 1995 in the village of Daulatpura Niwan in Moga, Punjab. From a young age, he was the heart of our home—known for his simplicity, his jolly laughter, and a gentle nature that made everyone love him. He worked hard in his studies and secured a government job with PSPCL, a respectable position that many dream of. But Davinder dreamed bigger. He wanted a brighter future for his family, so he made the brave decision to leave that security behind and move to Canada in 2022.

For the last four years, he worked tirelessly. He did every kind of hard work, always with a smile, always sending money home, always counting the days until he could see the family again. Just recently, his dream came true—he visited India. We laughed, we hugged, and we celebrated. He was so full of life, so happy, because he was coming home. He had booked his ticket to return to Canada to work a little more, with plans to come back to us for good in December to attend the most important event in our family: the wedding of his younger brother.

He never made it to that wedding!

He was waiting in his taxi, parked in front of a motel in North Battleford, doing his job, when a 19-year-old fired three shots into his car. Three shots. For no reason. In a split second, our brother, our Davinder, was gone.

He leaves behind a grieving wife, who has lost her husband. He leaves behind his parents, who have lost their child—a pain no parent should ever bear. He leaves behind a younger brother who will now have to walk down the aisle without his big brother by his side. He leaves behind a village in shock and countless unfinished dreams.

We are now left in a nightmare. The local community in Canada is in shock, and our village in Moga is weeping. His wife is shattered. His parents are unrecognizable with grief. His younger brother is lost without his hero. We never imagined the next time we would see Davinder would be in a casket.

It is with tears streaming down our faces that we share the devastating news of the passing of our dear Davinder Singh.

One moment, he was behind the wheel, doing what he did every day—picking up fares, sharing stories with passengers, and working hard. The next, a single, horrific act of violence stole him from us forever. We are still waiting for answers, but the one thing we know for certain is that our world will never be the same as we are all shook to the core.

Davinder was so much more than a statistic or a news headline, he was more than just a “human being”. To us, he was a free happy soul who would put other’s interest first then his own, A very selfless man who would do anything to spread love & happiness around him. He was a dedicated son, husband, friend & brother to his friends & family who are now facing a future without him. He was the protective husband who immensely loved his wife, a big brother who always made me & my friends feel safe, the son who called his mother every single night just to check in, and the friend who would give you the shirt off his back even if he didn't have much to give.

He took the job driving a cab because it gave him the flexibility to be there for his family. He worked long hours, often late into the night, navigating the city's streets to make sure his family had a roof over their heads and food on the table. He never complained. He just showed up, worked hard, and loved his people fiercely. To have his life ended so abruptly and violently while he was simply trying to earn an honest living is a pain that is beyond words.

We are completely devastated and now face the immense financial burden of laying him to rest. We are humbly asking for your support to help cover the costs of his funeral, burial, and to help ease the financial strain on his family during this impossible time. No family should have to worry about money while grieving such a profound loss.

Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly to giving Davinder the dignified and loving farewell he deserves and to supporting his wife, parents & family who just lost not only their hero but also the only bread winner in the house.

Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. If you cannot donate, we understand completely, and we ask that you simply share this link. Sharing his story honors his memory and helps us reach people who may be able to help.

Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for helping us carry this weight. Rest easy, Davinder. You were taken from us too soon, but you will never be forgotten. This body is perishable but not the memories that we created with you which will stay in my heart & soul forever.

With love and gratitude,
