Thump. Thump. Thump. Shh... Quiet. Listen. Do you hear it? Again. Thump. Thump. Thump.
Each thump is the beat of your heart
The average heart beats 86,400 times each day. Without a doubt, we take each beat for granted. Never really hearing or paying attention to the 86,400 miracles happening to each and every one of us.
All hearts are made of the same material. Each is performing the same miracles. So, what does it mean when we say that someone has a heart of gold? How many people do you know that you can honestly say "has a heart of gold?"
I have one friend that I know has a heart of gold. His heart may have the same genetic material as the rest of us, but somewhere deep inside resides the extra "“ the gold.
I wish to keep his name quiet for obvious reasons, but let me tell you a brief story (one of many) about this tremendous bal chessed.
Some years ago he was sitting on the porch of his apartment. As he sat he couldn't help overhearing his neighbor crying. She was on the phone with the electric company begging and pleading with them not to shut off the electricity in her apartment. With six little children at home shutting off the electricity meant that they would be without heat during the cold winter months.
That night he could not sleep. He kept hearing the cries of his poor neighbor. My amazing friend, with his heart of gold, understood that this was a time to act. He quickly went around to friends and acquaintances and shared with them the plight of his neighbor. Everyone thought this person must be a close friend or relative of his. The truth was he barely knew them. He always believed that all Jews are connected to one another. The thought of these Jewish children without heat was enough for him to take action and help! This type of work for Klal Yisrael is common place for him and his family. He and his wife have been dedicating their lives on behalf of Jewish teens at risk.
There are Jews all over the world that can say without a shadow of a doubt that the he and his beloved wife, have literally saved their life!
My friends, the reason I am sharing this with you today is because in the next 24 hours he will be undergoing open heart surgery! His heart of gold needs repair. Only 43 years old and the father of 5. Instead of saving other lives, he is now fighting for his own life!
Stress is the number one factor of heart problems. As he was working for Klal Yisrael and helping teens and families, he accumulated huge financial debt. That debt has taken its toll and brought him to a severe and dangerous health problem.
He is being threatened to have his meager possessions being taken from him. They don't even have food for Shabbos and now, after just starting a new job, he will be out of work for the next 4-5 months recuperating from this surgery.
My friends, the debt is real, the stress from the financial burden is literally killing him.
You and I can help him. His family needs our help now! We can help relieve the stressful financial burden that he carries in his heart. Please open your heart and help now.
