Hello, My name is Lita Lewis, I just found out that the VA has been charging me the entire time I've been with them (Oct 2013), even though I am an OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) veteran and rated at 70%. They took my income tax return to repay the debt that I called and spoke to them in person about, over a year ago.
The guy at VA billing told me the charges are valid even though they were appointments for injuries/ illness related to being in Iraq... I am not sure how that is accurate, but I am going to keep fighting to have the charges taken off.
I am a week away from losing my storage unit with all my furniture and was waiting on my refund to save it. I am currently 6 months pregnant and am getting ready to move at the end of the month to have space for a new baby.
I am a United States Navy vet who served nearly 14 years but was processed out because of medical issues. I am a full time student and work part time, but hard times don't seem to care when they happen. I am currently waiting for my disability to be awarded to me.
I am at my wit's end with the runaround from the VA system.
Any, and all monies received will go to paying for my storage unit and upcoming move and all bills associated with that move (deposits, truck rental, and transfer of utilities) as well as getting the house and items for my son before he gets here.
I have never been in a place where I had to ask for assistance, I have spent my life helping others and I had to put my pride away and admit, that I cannot do this on my own. I volunteer with veteran groups, am active in my church, and would like to think that I would gladly help out anyone who was in a similar situation.
I know that I would not take this support for granted and would continue to help others once I am back on my feet. I was raised in a house where we always had extra room for anyone who needed it and strive to be compassionate in my every day life.
If you are able to help, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for your time.
