What Happened:

On Tuesday night, Simba suddenly began bleeding from his nose and mouth, an alarming and terrifying experience for all of us. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was quickly hospitalized. After a series of tests, Simba has been diagnosed with ITP which means Immune Mediated thrombocytopenia. It is a condition that causes a severe drop in his platelet count, leading to abnormal bleeding and difficulty in clotting.

What is Thrombocytopenia in Dogs?

Thrombocytopenia is a serious condition in dogs where the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys its own platelets. Platelets are critical for blood clotting, so without them, even minor injuries can become life-threatening. This condition requires intensive medical care, including blood transfusions, medications to suppress the immune system, and close monitoring to prevent further complications.

Simba’s Current Condition:

Simba is currently receiving round-the-clock care, including blood transfusions and other treatments to stabilize his condition. The veterinarians are doing everything they can, but his road to recovery is long and uncertain. The cost of his hospitalization and treatments has already become overwhelming, and we anticipate even more expenses as Simba will need ongoing care after his discharge.
