Evanston Haitian Community Festival
Donation protected
Families from all over the area have gathered at the Evanston Haitian Community Festival for nearly 30 years. The festival first started at a park on McDaniel and Dempster, home to the late Andrea and Jules Vital Daye. They were two pioneers of the Haitian Community. Similarly to how Andrea and Jules kept their doors open to anyone, the festival has always followed the same notion. Everyone is welcome. Lead by Gerald Daye, this festival has been an embodiment of the Haitian Community in Evanston. Due to the spirit of our mission, we were blessed with increasing community participation and growth. This lead to our growing success, which in turn, we sought a larger venue and the City of Evanston granted us James Park. The Festival's Mission is to raise the level of consciousness of the Haitian community's contributions to the fabric of Evanston. We are grateful for the assistance from local businesses and sponsors. What you can expect at this festival is a great celebration including, music, art, food, dance, and of course fellowship. Providing live entertainment has always been a staple at the Festival, whether it be local bands, Caribbean artists or even young upcoming rappers, there's something to everyone's liking. We also provide food through vendors, and sports/games for everyone, especially the children. Water games, a bouncy house and face painting are just a few of the activities we provide for the kids. However, due to the increasing prices of entertainment, permits, audio equipment, other festival necessities, costs have increased. We need your support in keeping this great event and tradition going. Any amount that you can donate helps and goes straight to the Festival's needs. Bringing the community together is our goal.
