Born Free Pet Shelter 40th Anniversary Fundraiser

Born Free Pet Shelter is celebrating 40 years of rescuing dogs in Miami-Dade county.   Our hope is to raise $40,000 over the next 40 days through $40 donations.  The Mark and Carol Zemmel Fund for Human/Animal Connection has generously pledged to match every dollar raised, dollar for dollar, up to $40,000.
     Due to the pandemic, last year's annual fundraiser and primary source of income was cancelled, resulting in overdue veterinarian bills and delayed maintenance of our grounds and kennels.  We are a small shelter with only 1 full time employee and many dedicated volunteers.   All funds collected go directly to caring for our dogs.  
      Born Free never refuses medical care for a dog due to cost.  Last month we spent over $5,000 to remove ear polyps from a recent arrival, Sasha, which if left untreated could have caused her to go deaf.  Marquesa, an American Bulldog mix,  had a tumor removed from her neck on June 1st which cost us $1,481.39.  We are currently treating Roberta, a shar pei, for skin allergies, which include frequent consultations with a specialist, monthly treatments, medications  and medicated baths on a frequent basis.  These are just few examples of where our funds go.
   Born Free Pet Shelter provides a critical service as a No Kill Animal Rescue organization in south Miami-Dade County.  We actively rescue dogs, provide quality medical care, and a safe environment until loving homes can be found.      For more information about Born Free Pet Shelter, click here .
