Established in 2016, For You Haiti is a not-for-profit relief organisation developed to serve, love and empower the people of Haiti, in particular, the forgotten island of la Gonâve. Although our main focus is the children, we strive to provide medical, educational and family assistance to anyone that walks through our doors. For You Haiti has never had to turn away a single patient to date no matter the complexity of their medical case.

For you Haiti has been a big part of my life from 2016 when I flew over to their ground base on the island of La Gonâve off the coast of Haiti for a volunteer mission!

8 strangers got together and helped the Organization raise donations; to aid in the care and education of the Children and families of the people of La Gonâve. We got together and opened needed 6 water wells and built a play ground for the children all fully funded and paid for by their own and raised donations. And more..

Since then I’ve been hooked!

A little more context about the children and the island:

La Gonâve is a small island off the west coast of Haiti – one of the poorest nations on Earth. While the island is considered part of Haiti, La Gonâve and it’s 130,000 inhabitants are, for the most part, disregarded by the mainland. La Gonâve is known as “The Forgotten Haiti… The Forgotten Island.”

While organisations have provided aid over many decades to the mainland of Haiti, the island of la Gonâve has always been overlooked and disregarded. Going back to the late 1700s, runaway slaves sought refuge on the island having escaped their owners – a safe-haven- because it could only be reached by boat. To date, la Gonâve still remains completely isolated. Less than 5% of people have access to medical care and electricity. Food and water supply are unreliable, and most residents lack access to basic healthcare and education.

Unemployment levels are extremely high meaning very few families have enough money to feed, house, medicate and educate themselves and their children. Three of every four children under five years of age are malnourished. Despite the debilitating conditions on the island, Gonâvians are wonderfully vibrant, generous, strong and kind people.

The children I Met had incredible stories but I’d have to say the most touching is the stories of the children who where found on the side of the road dumped by their own families; left blind and starving for weeks; and thank God!! later were found and brought to the charity head quarters to be taken care of.

Over the years the charity has double its intake and has never turned away anyone in need of Help! I love this organisation and what it does for the people of La Gonâve!

So I’ve decided to ride my bicycle and trailer across Australia out back and cost line from outside Lithgow to Perth! Yes that’s right… 4000km. Mission should take 60-100 days.. I’m taking my time don’t rush me.. ;) I start Saturday  the 5th of February!!! I’ll be pitching a tent a camping for the journey and there are about 58 stops along the way! 

Why? Many reasons! Some personal others very simple. Some times we got to reach out side ourselves and think beyond our lives and our boxes!

We live in some chaotic times and sometimes we forget to give back and become selfish. Maybe and I pray you do decide to donate and perhaps then with your much appreciated donation you will too understand why I’m doing this. It just feels good.
