4 year old Lewis’s brain surgery

We are reaching out for help from friends, family, and everyone in between for our little nephew Lewis who will be facing major brain surgery.

Lewis is the oldest son of Sarah and Tyler Wilcox who are high school sweet hearts from Greeley CO.

Lewis just celebrated his 4th birthday in August!

He is the big brother to his 2 year old sister, Blythe and 10 month old brother, Aimon.

Starting in June 2022 Sarah starting noticing unusual behavior from this energetic, hilarious, giggly, and fiercely brilliant little boy. He was experiencing seizures. The kind that made him stare into space and lose all focus and attention on what he was doing- And as they got worse, and more frequent, his parents wanted some answers and help! After many tests and MRIs and EEGs and things a 4 year old should not have to experience, they have been given some answers- but not the answers they were praying for.

rasmussens disease- a disease where inflammation in the brain causes seizures and also, over time, will cause partial paralysis of his right side and impede his vision and speech. The treatment is brain surgery. A lobectomy, which is removing part of the brain where the disease is, with the chance that they could not get it all and the seizures could continue. The other option is a hemispherectomy which is removal of the entire half of the brain that is effected. 

For Lewis, this is the left side of his brain.

The doctors are reluctant to give an official diagnosis but with seizures occurring so frequently and the damage done to his brain, they have ruled out almost everything else. 

Brain surgery is inevitably and either way, 

Lew won’t ever be the same. 

As Sarah and Tyler are faced with this huge, complicated decision, they need our support.

This is only the beginning. MRIs, neurology teams, major brain surgeries, therapies, more testing, rehabilitation and more…

Not to mention, two more kiddos at home who miss their big brother.
