These student-apprentices will make a difference by learning the culinary and ceramic arts, specifically how to make a five-course meal and a five-piece hand-crafted, ceramic place setting. They will donate these results to a dozen families participating in one of the Prince George's County Food Recovery Programs.
The 4MAP Pilot program will be held in person at Artworks Now pottery studio and Flavors kitchen, both 501(c)3 non-profits in Hyattsville, MD. Each apprentice will earn Student Service Learning hours (SSL) and will gain ceramic, culinary and project management skills while collaborating with creative peers -- ultimately serving those families who are living with food insecurity as a daily reality.
We're raising funds to support the ceramics and culinary instruction as well as student transportation. Your designated donations are 100% tax deductible.
My name is Leila, and I am helping to launch this pilot. My motivation is that it is personally rewarding to me to help children to understand and to feel secure about their own great qualities and abilities. Having grown up in the desert, I visualize guiding children to their own “aquifers of confidence and tenacity.”
