We can't let Quake suffer anymore, so the time has come. What started as a canine cruciate ligament tear last year and severe arthritis that we managed with pain meds has turned into so much more. Almost 8 years to the day since Dixie adopted him from Sunny Saints Rescue, it's time for him to be out of pain. But Quake has been a light in so many of our lives, and our beloved Dixie's familiar, supporting and cheering her on through so many difficult times.
It's reassuring to know that he died at home, with the love of his life gazing into his eyes, knowing how loved he will always be. This was an absolutely impossible decision that Dixie had to make--Quake loves her like no one else, and vice versa--but she asked him, and he has told her he was ready to go.
Once the cost of all his many vet visits and procedures of late has been totaled up, the cost of sending him off in love and comfort appears to be around $5,000.
So many of you have contributed to the insanely high costs of taking care of Our Boy while his pain worsened, and when Dixie had to start footing the bills on her own. Now she faces the challenge of paying for what Quake let her know it was time to do.
If you did so, thank you. It eased Dix's worry so much that so many of you have been able to throw a bit of your hard-earned money Quake's way. And, here I am, asking those of you who have given before and those of you who weren't able to manage it then, but maybe now can, to help in ANY way you can.
So, if you are able to throw in a buck or ten or a hundred or a thousand, you are contributing. If you can cook something for Dixie she loves while she deals with this, you're contributing. Even buying tickets to any future Bawdy Storytelling show will help.
And if none of these are an option, you are contributing when you send your love, your healing thoughts, send flowers, call Dixie and tell her you love her, get on iTunes and write that five-star review of her podcast you've been meaning to write....support comes in a million different forms, and if you are reading this, you are a valued part of Dixie's community.
Quake was the gentlest, most loving giant there ever was. He was Dixie's grounding element, her therapist, her constant companion, her joyful duty and responsibility and her home. She hopes that he's frolicking once again, out of pain, and that one day they'll be reunited. Quake was promised further adventures, and Dixie wants to keep her promise to her Boi.
