Hello,
March 8th 2021 was a very hard day, scary all around. Dickey went to the store, and several hours later a fireman arrived at my moms home ( Lydia) to inform her, that her husband fell and hit his head. Lydia rushed to the hospital, no interpreters were provided, Lydia was not able to go inside, she Facetimed me and I was able to talk to a nurse, and we found out he had stroke.
March- April/May it is all a blur for the first week, My mother and I were planning that what If, he does not make it and if he does life will never be the same. That is a week my mother and I will never want to relieve. The reason why we thought he was not going to make it, is we had NO INTERPRETERS, an eager resident to jump to the worst.
May- July Dickey was moved to three different rehab homes, due to one not wanting to get an interpreter, their physical therapy was non-existent every day it was an uphill battle to get some kind of resolve with services, and they were shut down for two weeks due to one of the employees getting covid. That was another week my mother and I do not want to relieve. Dickey was moved to a really amazing physical therapy place and was finally making some progress, and the place is Ballard hospital they ARE AMAZING, they fought hard to extend his stay, they provided communication and were so understanding of the emotional turmoil for my mother, and dickey. (small plug if anyone needs a rehab place, pray you will not but Ballard is amazing) Sadly the insurance did not want to cover the stay anymore, and we had to transfer him to another placement that was worst then the first. The Physical therapy was less than needed, communication really scattered and no one seemed to know what was happening. Dickey was fastly declining there, the isolation was debilitating for his mind, and he started to lose any will to get better. Then insurance informed us they are DONE covering any hospital stays and we were left with pay out of pocket for Dickey just to lay in bed at this place, or for him to come home
That leads us to today August, My mother and I Made the hard choice to have him come home, where he can be comfortable with spot the family dog, in his own home where friends can visit him, and insurance does cover PT, OT and only 10 nurse visits. Sadly they do not cover caregivers, which now my mom has become a caregiver in the blink of the eye, and still having to work at the post office, cause bills never stop, and medical bills on top of that cause health insurance doesn't cover everything.
It has been the longest journey and it still continues, I share all this to ask humbly if you are able to donate to this cause in getting a caregiver for Dickey we would appreciate it more than you could ever know. We found a place that a care giver is 28/30 dollars an hour. My mom would like a care giver to come for at least 8 hours a week. Currently we are working on someone becoming a caregiver ( in home support services) but that takes 3 to 5 months. As a daughter I worry about my moms health to instantly become a caregiver, where we agreed on coming to making a go fund me where it can cover some of the care, until we are Able to have a permanent caregiver.
Thank you, I understand we are in a pandemic and everyone is hurting finaincally, and its hard to ask for money. If your heart is in a place of wanting to help, and you are not able to contribute money, but can contribute time that is just as wonderful. Time being a person who checks in with my mom, brings her meals, and visit dickey. It takes a village and we are reaching out for help.
Love and Light, healing.
