Hola hola, Story below .
As many of you know, we are in our last push to Help Save La Sirena Mexican folk art . Gratefully, extended until end of January. If we catch up on three months rent we will be able to re sign our lease and continue on !
If not, sadly, will be closing forever....can not imagine this and trust, in life things happen exactly the way they are meant to be.
*Ways you can help is to please donate, share and most fun if you can, come by and Shop at our whimsical, unique, one of a kind shop.!!
Story; I am Dina Leor, owner of La Sirena Mexican Folk Art. Celebrating 26 years of representing and helping support artisans from Mexico, here in the East Village of NYC!
My mission to help support the artisans, and that everything is hand made by another human being, this helps the traditions of amazing creativity continue on !

Why it's important to me
  • Whenever possible, everything is bought directly from the artisans to ensure they get fair trade pay.
  • Keep pricing as reasonable as possible so friends and families can shop with me.
  • When people come to La Sirena they feel at home. We have had many customers over the years that can not go home and stop by for that special, one of a kind gift for a friend, traditional clothing for a school event and traditional home décor.
  • A young man, delivery person locked up his bike and came inside, I welcomed him. As he was looking around I saw lagrimas (tears) down his face. I asked if he was ok, he said his (abuelita) grandma recently passed and he could not go home for the funeral. That the shop brought so many good memories. I got teary too, and told him he could come by and spend time whenever he wished.
When kids and some grownups come in they say..... wow mommy, look at this. Its all of this and lots lots more that make La Sirena such a magical, special place.
Since the pandemic lockdown, people have been shopping more online.
This has cut down a lot on sales, rent increase and now the tariffs.
I have been paying rent out of pocket for a few months. I've been in denial, It is not sustainable.
I am in a pickle, I can’t afford to stay open the way things are and at the same time, I have way too much beautiful folk art to close.
As Joelle Garguilo said, "During these times, small businesses need help. Small businesses are the heart, fabric and soul of NYC."
Please donate:
Your gofundme donations will help pay back rent and allow us to stay open.
Please come shop in at our whimsical, evolving assemblage of Mexican folk art.
Donations and selling existing stock will help keep the shop open and allow me to continue on my mission.
I’m so grateful for your help, no donation is too large or too small !
Please share, pass it on!
Come by and visit a piece of Mexico in NYC!
Mil gracias--a million thanks, Dina Leor
