An update on Mikes fight. Today he has started the first of many treatments. Any thoughts and prayers for Mike will be greatly appreciated.

Hi my name is Shane Johnson and my friend from work Mike Ahern has just learned he has Cancer for the third time in 3 years. He has been battling Cancer for three years, but now has been told it has moved into his right lung. Unfortunately the oncologist does not sound hopeful this time around.

Mike is a proud member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 502, and thankfully because of the unions hard fought for benefits package Mike has received disability benefits when needed during his long fight with Cancer. However mortgage payments eat up most of those benefits and Mike has had to drain his personal savings to keep paying all the bills. Mikes wife has Lupus/Fibromyalgia and so she is disabled. His twin son and daughter are graduating in June and are planning to go to Trade school and University. As we all know schooling is not cheap.

This round of treatment will mean he is off work for 3 months and then an unknown recovery time. So I am hoping to raise money to help pay the bills while he is off work. Any money raised will go straight to an account in his name so that he can withdraw money as needed.

If enough of us each donate even a small amount then Mike can concentrate on fighting this cancer instead of dealing with the stress of piling up bills.
