Heidi’s Medical Bills

Hi everyone. My name is Serafina Churchill, I am making this post for my heart horse named Heidi. She has been my best friend for the past 12 years now and means more to me than anything.

We found her almost dead yesterday morning, August 22nd from what I thought was a bad colic. My vet Sarah Appleby came to try and figure out what was going on with her. We decided to rush Heidi up to CSU equine hospital for more intensive treatment. After the doctors at CSU looked her over they decided she needed to be rushed into surgery immediately.

They found 2 very large lipomas that were suffocating her small intestine!! They had caused the small intestine to twist and die off. She needed 20 feet of small intestine and the lipomas removed! It was a 5.5 hour surgery which she had a hard time waking up from. They finished around 6pm last night. She’s been stable since, but today had an allergic reaction to the lidocaine IV fluids which caused her to become neurological and she fell and opened up her sutures. They had to re-staple her incision area and wrapped her in a bandage. There is about a 50/50 chance of her making a full recovery as of right now. The doctors can’t give me a very clear prognosis for another few days. She is such a strong little girl and has so much will to live still left in her. I’m praying she can pull through and make a miraculous recover.

Her medical bill is estimated to be around $30,000. It was $22,000 for the surgery alone but she will be in intensive care for another 10-14 days.

I love this beautiful horse with my whole heart and soul. She means more to me than anything, and I will do everything I can to save her. I don’t feel she’s ready to leave her body yet so I will keep fighting for her. She has been by my side through so much and has the biggest heart. I truly wouldn’t be the women I am today without this amazing mare. I love her so incredibly much. She has my whole heart and forever will.
