Three words you never expect to hear- “You have cancer”. Three words you never expect to hear, the same night you bury your grandfather- “You have cancer”. Three words you don’t expect to hear at 25- “You have cancer”. But these are exactly the three words that Nathan Markgraf received on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Now let’s be honest Nathan knew about this small pesky lump three years ago in his neck, but it never really bothered him and it wasn’t really growing. Until three months ago that’s when it started to bother him, and it did start to exponentially grow. After ending up in the ER to have it checked and drained of fluids, Drs knew something wasn’t right.
Per Nathan’s first oncology appointment with a doctor of lymphoma, he has been diagnosed with high grade B-cell lymphoma, which is an aggressive cancer. He has a lump that is approximately 7 cm in his neck/collarbone area. We know that swift treatment and time is of the essence in order to kick this cancer in the butt! As of right now his treatment plan is 5 days in the hospital and then 7-10 days at home to give his body time to rest and get his immune system back up for another round for the next 6 months.
Here are a few reasons that Nathan and Bethany need your financial help-
* out-of-pocket costs associated with treatment
* upfront costs in order to be diagnosed and get the ball moving
* They also want to proactively protect their ability to have children in the future and they will be consulting a fertility Dr
* Nathan missing time at work due to treatments, Dr appts and possibly not feeling good enough or too low immunity to go into work. (This could possibly be 6 months of not being able to work)
* Bethany missing work to stay with Nathan during treatments and transporting him to/from appts
*Treatment at MD Anderson in Houston that will require gas, parking fees and eating out.
All these things add up! If you prefer Venmo you can send as friends and family to @Bethany-Markgraf
We also have an Amazon wish list of things he might need during upcoming chemo treatments. Amazon bless him list

Even more than your monetary donation we would appreciate your prayers for Nathan, his wife Bethany, the families of this young couple and for the Dr’s to have wisdom on how to treat Nathan and his lump “Jimbo” who isn’t welcome!
Nathan still has a sense of humor and even though there are a lot of unknown answers at this time we know that our God is bigger than cancer.
We believe in healing power of prayer and we need you to pray for these things
- no spreading of the cancer
- no growing of Jimbo
- no Burkett diagnosis
- wisdom for the Dr and team
- Nathan and Bethany job security during this hard time
- financial worries they may have
- healing of this cancer
Thank you for blessing this young couple during this time and may you be blessed!
