Hi my name is Michael Berry . Life changes in an instant & it certainly did for me. One day I was on top of the world and the next I can’t even walk a flight of steps . Last January, I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure , hypertension, high blood pressure and heart issues-and I  spent the first half of the year in the hospital. Once released, I was put on dialysis 3 times a week. I thought that would be manageable, but my health continued to turn for the worse. I have not responded well to dialysis. I eventually lost my job in November 2023 due to the fact that I wasn’t able to work full time . The last few weeks I have been in and out of the hospital with kidney and heart problems. I have worked since I was 16 and have always taken care of myself without any assistance. Now at 52 , I find myself too sick to work a full time job and my savings gone. I am on the kidney transplant list and hopefully within the year I will have a kidney and can get back to work & resume my life. The kidney failure has brought about a list of health issues, but I know I will see a better day. I will be losing my health insurance February this year. The money I am requesting will be used for me to survive until I get a kidney and can return to work and for medical expenses. I am on the kidney transplant list and I have applied for disability. The process for disability can take up to a year . Never in my life did I think I would end up in this position: I worked hard my entire life but here I am.
