Baby Mason

"After a healthy, full-term pregnancy, Brianna went in labour on Friday, January 31st. Everything was going fine until her uterus ruptured and put the baby into distress. Brianna was rushed into an emergency caesarian and 10:52pm, her baby boy, Mason was born.
Mason had slid into Brianna’s abdomen which caused a lack of oxygen & blood flow to his brain. It took the medical professionals 6 minutes to get a heartbeat and 25 minutes to get Mason breathing. They inserted a breathing tube immediately and requested a helicopter to get Mason to Victoria General Hospital. Due to the storm, they were unable to get him until afternoon the next day. While they waited Mason showed signs of seizure activity.
Upon arrival at Vic Gen, Mason had a big seizure and was placed on seizure meds and a controlled hypothermic treatment to prevent further brain damage & swelling. After 72 hours of cooling, they warmed Mason back up slowly over 12 hours. On Wednesday afternoon Mason went for an MRI to see the extent of the damage on his brain. They learnt that Mason had severe brain damage on all parts of his brain, including his brain stem. Specialists shared with Brianna & Ryan that he likely wouldn’t make it, and if he did, he would have a very low quality of life.
Brianna and Ryan had to make the worse decision of their lives and decided to take out the breathing tube, to avoid any suffering or pain for their beautiful baby. Mason hung on for several days and got to snuggle with mom, dad, and family until he peacefully took his last breaths in briannas arms early Friday morning.
Brianna & Ryan are currently in the process of having him cremated and planning a celebration of life. We are asking for support for financial hardships they have to endure while missing work, being away from home and the costs of funeral and laying him to rest. This is something no parents should ever have to endure or struggle with and we want money to be the least of their worries.
