Late afternoon, on the 29th of December, my friend Kat was driving home from work in the mountains outside of Bend, Oregon. She hit ice and her truck rolled down a steep incline, gaining momentum before it smashed into the trees below and shattered into bits, in a hole not visible from the road. Kat had to climb up and out by herself but could not push or pull with her arms because her ribs were hurt too badly and there was broken glass everywhere. She recalled hearing other cars drive by but knew that nobody could hear or see her. The cab was smoking and teatering. She was scared that it might fall more or blow up, so she just kept pushing with her legs and somehow wiggled out through a busted out window. When she finally made it out and up to the road, she was in shock and covered in blood and dirt. Some people stopped to help when they saw her, and an ambulance arrived shortly after to take her to the hospital. The ambulance had to turn around on the same ice. The entire experience was extremely traumatizing, including the ER visit, as Kat has crippling medical anxiety from past bad experiences, was completely alone, and was taken over an hour away from her home. She is still unable to work due to her injuries and lack of transportation, and is currently at the mercy of strangers for rides to follow up appointments. She does have a few kind neighbors who are helping her with food and her propane tanks, but she is still facing so much uncertainty. She could only afford liability on the truck so insurance will not be helping her. Kat is really beat up and she needs our help. Kat is one of the sweetest, most empathetic and caring people I know. She helps everyone she comes across that needs her. Now, it's our turn. Let's rally together and make her life a little bit easier and a little bit less scary. Every little bit helps and is so appreciated!!! Thank you so much!!!
