A friend and one of the most genuine , honest and goodhearted persons you could ever hope to meet, has been struck with the devastating news that they have Stage 4 - Sinonasal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
This cancer is particularly rare in this location, and is horribly aggressive. At stage 4 the biggest issue is that it has breached the skull and could be growing into the brain.
Effectively they way this cancer is to be treated, is to remove the top of the skull, pressurize the brain to allow access to the nasal cavity and front skull to attempt to remove and determine the extent of the growth, all the while trying to avoid optical nerves, ophthalmic and superficial temporal arteries. Obviously there is significant risk associated with any surgery, but this one in particular due to its proximity and interaction with brain.
After the operation will commence both Radiation and Chemo therapy.
The partner of the patient , John Hetherington will be required to stop work for the duration of recovery which could be six months to year depending on success (which we are praying for) or complications of which there could be many.
I am trying to raise funds to ease the financial burden of living and medical expenses during this period for the family.
This operation and subsequent treatment is urgent due to the aggressive nature of the cancer and its advanced stage, so any help that could be provided immediately would be greatly appreciated.
The operation is on the 20/08/2019 and our thoughts and prays are with family for a positive outcome.
