Happy Holidays, Everyone!
I wanted to take a moment to share something I've learned recently: nothing is more important than health. I discovered this the hard way after an incredible experience at Genevieve’s CD launch at Koerner Hall—800 people on a Wednesday night! I felt amazing… until a few days later, when I started experiencing some health issues that I initially thought were just a pinched nerve.
After some concerning symptoms, I found myself in a bit of a health crisis: high blood pressure, a trip to the ER, and many tests later, I discovered a hidden issue with mold in my home, which could’ve been affecting my health. While I'm still working hard to get clear answers on my health issues, I’ve been navigating this challenging time with a lot of support from my amazing friends and family, who have stepped up in big ways.
A special shout-out to Gigi, Irene, Mariana, Melleny, Sam and Sue, Yas and Michiho, Stephanie, Audrey, Jessica and Assaf, Robin Barker, and everyone who has helped me with transportation, places to stay, and emotional support. Gigi has been an absolute lifeline—I truly feel like she saved my life!
While I’m still in the process of seeing specialists (which is taking some time), I’m feeling hopeful and grateful for the healing journey ahead. I’ve been advised to take it easy and focus on recovery for a couple of months, so I’ll be spending some time up north in Durham to reset, eat well, exercise, and focus on getting better.
As much as I’m excited about the upcoming events and projects, my doctors have advised me to take a step back from some things in the short term. I won’t be leading the tour to Cuba in January, and I’ll be staying closer to home to recover. However, I’m excited for 2025, with upcoming events like Caravan of Music at the Old Mill on April 9th, and a sneak preview of my first feature film, MagicLand, along with a screening of some of my award-winning shorts.
If you’re looking for ways to help, I’ve created a GoFundMe to support my health recovery. I never imagined I’d find myself in this position, but I truly appreciate any support you’re able to offer...
It's a lot: moving costs, prescriptions, specialist appointments, and hopefully able to move back to Toronto when I'm healthy again.
As I reflect on this challenging time, I’m filled with gratitude for the love and support I’ve received. My heart is working overtime, but it’s full of love and appreciation for each of you.
Wishing you all the best of the season—may your holidays be filled with warmth, joy, and health.
With deep gratitude,
