2017 New York Trip

Dear Family and Friends,I once again have been offered an opportunity to write for Fast Forward Magazine’s annual New York Issue. For those of you that do not know what this entails, I will be travelling to New York with a group of roughly 15 teenagers to report on several people and companies, creating complex articles made up of several journalists work. Last year we interviewed people such as Ira Glass, Sally singer (the digital director of vogue), several workers and reporters at Vice HQ and the cast of the broadway musical School Of Rock. This year one confirmed interview is the editorial head of Buzzfeed, a well known news and entertainment company. We will be seeing Dear Evan Hansen, an acclaimed musical which has been nominated for an astonished 9 tony awards. The opportunity to see this play will be not only an amazing but beneficial experience for me seeing as next year I will not only continue to be involved in the Marin School of the Arts film program, but also participate in their award winning theater program. Though this trip is truly amazing, the cost is steep. Because of this I have started working at the Rafael Theater in downtown San Rafael to take on some of the cost myself (stop on by I work wednesday nights, and mornings on the weekends). Though I have a job which helps, still paying the necessary fees in time is somewhat difficult for me and my family. Seeing as my mother already does so much raising three kids on her own, it is difficult for her to help as much as she may want to. Because of this I am asking you to give whatever you can to help me go to New York this summer. I realize it is redundant to call this trip a “once in a lifetime chance” considering I went last year, but going again will be just as beneficial. As a incoming high school junior, college is on my mind more and more. I have decided I would like to major in film and minor in journalism. Being a two time published journalist will obviously help me a lot in my application process.
