The Fight Against Cancer

I am not one who often shares a lot of personal information on social media, however to raise money for cancer research and cancer treatment, I want to do anything I can.

In 2007 my father at 57 years of age, was diagnosed with lung cancer, after battling the disease he passed away aged 58. The strength he showed through his battle was remarkable and something I look up to everyday. In 2015 my mother also aged 57 was told she had lung cancer, after a 17month long and painful battle with the disease, which had spread through her bones, she also passed away at 58 years of age.

My mother was treated for the duration of her time with cancer, at the Chris O’Brien Life House in Sydney. The hospital is a non for profit, state of the art hospital, designed for cancer patients only. A Dr by the name of Chris O’Brien, who was a brain surgeon, operating on patients with brain cancer had a dream to build a hospital where patients with all forms of cancer could come, and have all the facilities needed under the one roof. Chemotherapy treatment, Dr consultations, radiation therapy, imaging scans, intensive care unit and also two wards to house patients not well enough to go home, or even if they were coming from a far distance for treatment. Dr Chris O’Brien passed away himself from a brain tumour, and in his honour, his wife made his dream come true, by raising the funds to build the Chris O’Brien Life House.

Paul Lahood Funeral Services and Dolton house have come together to host a funder raiser on the 24th of April, 2016. Funds raised at this event will be going towards the Chris O’Brien Life House, for the use of a new lung cancer machine, which will aid in early detection, as well as general funding to the hospital. As I have seen my mother treated here, I know how important and relieving it is to have these facilities in one building. With caring staff, state of the art machines, and very low cost of much needed items for cancer patients, such as wigs, the Chris O’Brien Life House is a gift to both family and patients.

This machine can be life changing for patients with cancer, and also their families however, the cost comes in at hundreds of thousands of dollars. At my mother’s funeral we asked for a small donation to be given rather than flowers, which will be presented by myself on the night of the event. THIS is where anyone who would like to help the life changing cause can donate; all funds donated on this campaign will be added to the funds from the funeral and presented to the Chris O’Brien Life House on the night.

I would like to whole heartedly thank anyone who donates and helps this cause in advance; this is a disease which has taken both my Mother and Father at a very young age, your donations will help make a vital difference to those battling cancer.
