Hurricane Florence Home Rebuild

Hurricane Florence flooded the Leland, NC home of Lauren Auton and Christopher  Saunders leaving them with no home and very few personal items to salvage.  The water level rose to over 9 feet in the home literally soaking everything they owned in sewage smelling water leaving dead fish among the wreckage of the property. 

The damage to the home is severe and they need funds to cover their housing while they begin to rebuild.  Lauren has indicated that while they have to make their mortgage payments, they are not receiving any assistance for housing from insurance and FEMA is only covering a very small amount of their need. 

Lauren and Christopher have lost furniture and clothes and they are spending quite a bit on travel, food and other essentials while being displaced.  They are outreaching and utilizing many of the resources available to people during the recovery phase of a natural disaster, but as you can imagine, it is simply not enough when you have no home.

We are heartbroken for our friends and for their loss.  Fortunately, they did evacuate with their dogs and chickens, so the most important things are not lost.

”We have made it back to Leland and we were able to get to our house. While I am so extremely grateful that we are all safe, it is so disheartening to see something that you have put so much time and effort into just destroyed. Our world has been flipped upside down. Very, very little, if anything is salvageable inside.  Please keep us in your prayers as we try to put our life back together.”
