Consolatta's Tuition & Medical Care
Donation protected

I'm Laura Bassett, a journalist for The Huffington Post. Last week, I published a story about Consolatta Wafula, a 17-year-old rape victim in Kenya whose life was destroyed after her rapist, a local politician, arranged for her to have a dangerous, unsafe abortion that left her with a mysterious itchy rash all over her body. As the story explains, a U.S. anti-abortion policy contributed to the draconian laws in Kenya that force girls like Consolatta to go to "quack" doctors to end their pregnancies.
Consolatta is no longer in school because her father, a farmer, had to sell most of his cows to pay for her ongoing health care and can no longer afford his daughter's $450-a-year high school tuition. She longs to continue her education so she has a chance to fulfill her dream of becoming an engineer.
With the help of $1000 dollars, Consolatta could go back to school and get appropriate medical care to diagnose and treat her debilitating skin rash. I spent some time with her in Bumula, her small town in Kenya. She is a smart, honest and ambitious teenager, and she deserves to have a chance in life. With the help of a local women's advocacy group, I will make sure every dollar of this money goes to Consolatta's health and education, and I will follow up on her progress.
Thank you for your help!
