Fabry Fighter Faces Financial Feat
My name is Amanda and I just turned 26. I applied for disability mid May.
Let me start by saying I am not looking for handouts here. I got my BA and MS by the time I was 23 and worked since I was 16 up until last month. . This is quite honestly one of the first times I've admitted defeat and I need to slow down. But that comes with a cost...
I was diagnosed with Fabry disease when I was four and it has caught up to me - I can no longer work. After my father passed in May (from Fabry) I applied for disability and took charge of my health ...but it will take some months to get approved. I am on a lot of neurological pain meds to help the neuropathy, as well as mood stabilizers for depression/anxiety, and I can't go outside in the summer because I can't sweat and will pass out if I'm outside too long... other symptoms include extreme GERD and IBS, pain crisis', and chronic fatigue (yet extreme insomnia in the summer). I am heavily monitored by over 12 specialists. My school debt and medical bills make me feel like I can't get my head above water ...
Right now I can't even think straight with the bills I need to still pay monthly before disability kicks in ... I don't make enough to apply for a personal loan and I don't qualify for SSI for the interim.
This money will only go toward bills (actually, a lot of bills) and groceries. I don't spend irresponsibly. SSI can't help me for the interim. So I just -- feel like an idiot and hope people can give like $5 here and there.
I'm sorry if this sounds pathetic. I seriously feel like it sounds pathetic. But maybe it can work?
Contact me if you wanna chat more about Fabry or my life. I'm pretty open. I just want to financially get to November..
