Hi, everyone!
As some of you may know, Lucy mysteriously fell ill on Friday, March 22nd. Suspecting toxicity, we rushed her to the emergency room for treatment. After several hours and tests, the results came back negative with no indication of any issues or illness.
Still not seeming one hundred percent ; I took her to her regular vet the following morning for additional tests (eye and urine). Again, the results came back with no avail. Somewhat puzzled and uncertain of what else to do, the vet administered a steroid injection, a shot of antibiotics, and subcutaneous fluids. All of these seemed to do the trick, as Lucy was back to her normal, active self within a couple of days. Sadly, those two days were short-lived.
Since March 22nd, Lucy has been in and out of the vets office, back to the emergency room, and hospitalized this past Tuesday morning when she appeared to be losing her eyesight, and afraid to walk. Having exhausted all other options, I scheduled her with a neurologist, whom she saw this morning (April 11th).
Grateful and with renewed hope, we may have finally found the answers! The neurologist we met with believes what Lucy may be suffering from is either an infection, a parasite, or an auto-immune disease within her brain. Unfortunately, the only way he can know more clearly requires an MRI and spinal tap, which he is requesting we have done IMMEDIATELY!!!
As I'm writing this, Lucy has very little, if any, vision left and needs medications immediately to save her life and hopefully restore her vision.
WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
For those of you who don't know this; Lucy is a Distemper survivor (8 out of 10 dogs die from Distemper). Knowing that she fought and won this major battle as a ten week old puppy reassures me that she can and WILL WIN whatever battle this may be. If there's one thing I know for sure about her, it's that she has the strongest will to overcome obstacles and live.
The estimated costs for the MRI and spinal tap is $3,717.00. There will also be additional costs for medication(s)/treatments (TBD).
Because of all the medical costs incurred thus far (breakdown below), I have nothing left financially to help save my little Lucy. I've exhausted all of my savings, maxed out my Care Credit, and have already borrowed from a couple of friends and family. And, to add insult to injury, I have been unable to go to work this entire week, as Lucy has needed my continuous supervision and care.
There's no other way for me to say this than to tell you that Lucy is my life!!! There is nothing in this world I wouldn't do for her! Please help me help her! If you can't make a donation, all we ask is that you please share this post.
God bless you all!
Love,
Heather & Lucy
