Johns Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
My husband John Williams has Metastic Anorectal Sqaumous Cell Carcinoma Stage 4. He was diagnosed 5 years ago and has fought so hard over these years to fight his cancer but sadly he is now classed as terminal. He has endured countless radiation, chemotherapy, surgeries, groin dissection, 2/3rds of his liver removed and now has 2 stents to help keep his body functioning. He only has one kidney functioning due to the cancer in his urether. He also has another tumour growing into his lumbar spine . His cancer is now through this lymphatic system and growing.
Over the last 6 months John spends most of his day in bed. He sleeps nearly 18 hours a day. To watch this once hardworking, generous, kind man become so weak, tired, and in constant pain is devastating to watch.
He has had 4 hospital stays in the last 6 months and this will continue from now on in.
In November last year we were advised that he may be eligible for a free trial of Keytruda and it is now June. Everyday he would ask if I had heard anything about the trial and everyday I had to say no. We have just been told it is not happening. I had to tell John this news and to see his reaction was gut wrenching.
This drug Keytruda is now on the PBS for Melanoma stage 4 patients at a cost of $36 per treatment.
This drug however IS NOT covered for John on the PBS!! We have today been quoted a cost $7,710 per treatment. John needs at least 6 treatments. This will be administered every 3 weeks. If it works he will need to continue treatment to go into remission. However if it doesn't work he has to stop.
I find this very hard to do. We have been blessed over the years to have such amazing support from our family and friends to get through the last 5 yrs. I can honestly say we wouldn't have made it without them.
But I have to swallow my pride because I am not ready to lose John to this hideous disease, and I have to give him every chance whatever it takes to fight this.
I have spoken to the Department of Health And Merck pharmaceuticals and various other institutions researching this drug, and cannot fathom how they can discriminate from one terminal Patient to another.
My promise to you if you would find in your heart to donate
And share this page for me, is that I will make it my life's mission to campaign to have these drugs become available to every single person going through what John is going through under the PBS.
John hasn't said much about the drug or how I was intending to do whatever I could to help him, but tonight he said he felt for the first time, he had hope. That made up my mind to do whatever I can.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart x
