Over the past few weeks we have received a few messages regarding how people can help support our mom along her journey. The overwhelming love and support that has been shown to us by the people who care for our mother truly touches our hearts. We are setting up this GoFundMe to help aid in her current and future medical expenses.
On July 17th, the day before our mom was set to graduate from the University of Wisconsin our mom suffered from a medical emergency. She had complaints of a headache and was found by a classmate seizing in the dorm hallway. The ambulance arrived where she was found to be seizing once again. Our mom was intubated on the scene and rushed to the hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was found to have a brain aneurysm rupture, a stent coil embolization was completed and our mom was sent to the Neuro ICU floor in critical condition. On the 19th our mom was doing well enough to be extubated. She was saying our names, standing/sitting on the side of the bed, and somewhat moving her right arm well enough to warrant the “boxing gloves” to make sure she wouldn’t pull out any of her countless tubes and wires. But like we were warned by her medical team things could take a step back, and unfortunately they did. There was suspicions of vasospasms and another angiogram had to be completed and during this time our mom had to be intubated and placed on the ventilator once again. Since this time we’ve hit a lot of bumps in the road such as: pneumonia, vasospasms, clogged NG tubes, mini strokes, neuro storming and countless other medical issues.
UPDATE 8/29:
It has been 44 days since our mom was admitted to the hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Since then our mom has continued to have numerous amounts of imaging done and other procedures as well. She now has a few more accessories, such as a tracheostomy to help her breathe more effectively and a feeding tube. The plan is not to have the trach and feeding tube permanently but to have them be used as tools to assist her in a faster and safer healing. Getting to this point has not been easy but she’s been making tremendous efforts to reach the point where she is now. We are so eager to get her closer to home to an acute rehab and are so fortunate to even be able to say this as we understand things could have ended so much differently. Currently we are awaiting placement for her in an acute rehab. Mom just needs to gather a bit more strength and be approved! Once admitted to an acute rehab our mom will more than likely spend a couple months there to aggressively work with physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Our family will continue to commute and stay alongside her to give her the support she needs while she gathers her strength to be with us again.
