A Slice of New York - Sahm Joushanpoosh

Donation protected
On Sunday, May 24, 2020, A Slice of New York lost one of our chosen family. Sahm Joushanpoosh was raised in San Jose and was a professional meat-cutter for 12 years before joining A Slice of New York in 2015. He was immediately able to translate his skills, work ethic, love of life, and larger-than-life personality to the pizza community. The Stevens Creek shop in Santa Clara was his home. Bringing a union background to the team, he was able to provide perspective when we started our discussions around transitioning to a worker cooperative.

Sahm became a Founding Member of our co-op, served on our first Board as the Chair, was a member of the Culture and Accountability Committee, and did initial orientation for new trainees the past few years. He made our #asonyfam complete and grounded. He was a warrior in our kitchen.

On Sunday, May 24 at the age of 37, he lost his battle to liver and kidney failure, unrelated to COVID-19. However, because of the corona virus pandemic, hospital visits were not allowed. His immediate family was able to see him during his final days, and the shop crew was able to share encouraging words on speakerphone the evening before he passed. Sahm will be greatly missed by his team, as well as his regular customers who he knew by name and their pizza orders.

Thank you very much for your support.
