Help Support Jordan
Donation protected
Over the past 6 months, life has taken a drastic, unexpected turn for my 34-year-old sister-in-law, Jordan Acord. A once healthy, strong and independent young woman, she now relies on the help of others simply to complete many of her basic, self-care needs.
This past spring Jordan was forced to leave a job she loved as manager at Harry’s Uptown in Wichita. Weakness in her extremities affected her balance, ability to walk and use of her hands. After being hospitalized this past spring she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Jordan was relieved to have some answers; however, the disease did not progress as expected. Rather than showing improvement, her symptoms continued to worsen leaving doctors to question the initial diagnosis. Providers initiated a battery of tests in an attempt to determine what was happening to this typically healthy young adult.
Desperate to work, but now facing extreme gross and fine motor challenges leaving Jordan unable to walk, hold a pen, type, or see well enough to read or send a text message, she was forced to stay home. All she could do was pray for answers while watching her savings become depleted just to pay for daily expenses such as food and utilities, not to mention the mounting medical expenses.
Finally, a diagnosis of atypical CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy) came from her neurologist this fall. With that diagnosis, however, comes a lifetime of IVIG (intravenous Immunoglobulin) treatments, at least once a month, costing thousands of dollars per treatment. And if suffering from her physical limitations was not stressful enough, Jordan and her neurologist are currently battling with insurance to get her treatment approved and coverage has been denied after each request.
We are asking for support in any way possible--either financially or simply by sharing Jordan’s story or sending her an uplifting message. Any donations gathered will help minimize the financial burden of the medical expenses she currently is experiencing and will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
