Hi my name is Taylor I am a type 1 diabetic I have been since 2018 I am also insulin resistant. This means my bloods run high almost everyday causing ketones which leads to DKA. DKA is a serious condition where a lack of insulin causes acid to build up in the blood. I have been hospitalised many of times due to this. We have seen alot of specialist’s up and down the country but still can’t get the answers we are looking for. I inject between 15-20 times a day which is effecting my everyday life. Living with high blood sugars is draining and can make me physically sick at times. If I could get this insulin pump I think it will benefit me as I would only have to inject once a week and it would reduce the burden of me injecting multiple times a day. We have tried applying for the pump through the NHS for the last 6 years and I am just getting nowhere with it. I don’t get any help with my diabetic specialists so I have took it on myself to try and get my own funding. Living this long with high blood sugars has caused so much damage to my liver and kidneys and also neurological problems. All I am trying to do is to give myself a better quality of life and not have to suffer everyday. I feel a bit embarrassed in having to do it this way but I feel like it’s my only shot. If the insulin pump doesn’t work for me I might have to look into having a pancreas transplant but I really want to give this a try first. I know this is a big ask because everyone is struggling at the moment but every penny donated is a great help xx
