Catherine had a second reconstructive ACL surgery on May 29, 2019 about 9 yrs after the original surgery which turned out that it never grafted back then. This ACL surgery would have had her off of work for about 10 days or so.

However things drastically changed on June 8th when she was taken to ER. She couldn’t breath, had chest pains & trouble with her vision. She was rushed into emergency surgery when CT scan showed she had massive pulmonary embolisms in both lungs that were life threatening.

They performed surgery by opening her chest like they do for open heart surgeries in order to get the blood clots out of her lungs. One clot was 5 inches long & about the thickness of her female doctor’s thumb.

She spent 3 days in ICU, but a total of 6 days in the hospital after surgery before being released. The days following her release, she wasn’t improving & started running a fever. After 3 visits to ER, doctors discovered the reason why she was not improving. They found fluid around Catherine’s heart (about the equivalent of two 12 oz cans of soda).

She is now in the hospital again for a minimum of 5 days and until the fluid buildup can be resolved while being careful to avoid another blood clotting occurrence and has now had her third surgery in less than a month to remove 70 % of the fluid around her heart. She currently has a drainage tube in her chest to get the remaining fluids out.

Catherine will not be able to return to work for several weeks or longer depending on how her recovery goes.
