Hi, friends and loved ones of Ab! I'm sending this message on behalf of loving, joyful, supportive, and creative Ab! I'm so grateful for all the love they've brought to me, and I'm sure you all feel the same! NOW LET'S RAISE SOME MONEY!
Last winter, after having heart palpitations for a few weeks, Ab ended up in the ER. Doctors there suggested that Ab might have POTS, or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system that causes the heart rate to get unusually high, especially when standing.
A few months later, Ab got officially diagnosed with POTS. They were sent home from their appointment with vague instructions to eat more salt and wear compression tights. Their doctor, one of the best POTS specialists in the area, was so booked that they could not be given a followup appointment. Ab was essentially on their own to figure out a complex neurological disorder.
Ab has spent countless hours researching and experimenting with electrolyte brands, exercise regimens, supplements, and brain retraining. After a year of constant trial and error, it has become clear that they need help to figure out how to support their sensitive system.
Because POTS causes a high heart rate when standing, things like cooking, cleaning, and going for walks have at times been nearly impossible for Ab. The good news is that after a decade of mystery illness, knowing the cause of their symptoms means that Ab has a chance of feeling a lot better. Short-lived periods of recovery have shown Ab that with the right combo of things, they can have far greater physical capacity. The missing ingredient is a doctor who can put all the pieces together.
Ab plans to work with a functional medicine doctor who specializes in working with extremely sensitive patients with complex chronic illness. Funds will pay for a year of out-of-pocket care, including doctor’s appointments, supplements, osteopathy treatments, and nutrition guidance.
Given this political moment and how much harm is happening across the board for marginalized folks, it’s feeling edgy for Ab to ask for help. And, they can’t imagine continuing to manage complex illness without more attuned, specialized healthcare.
Let's help Ab get the healthcare they need!
