Support Sam's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family of the Smiths,
This gofundme is set up to help offset the following expenses:
-Medical flight for Sam to Craig Hospital in Denver
-Travel and lodging for Michelle & kids to Denver to visit Sam
-Handicap accessible bathroom and back door remodel
-Handicap accessible vehicle conversion
-Travel for Sam for outpatient rehabilitation three times a week when released from Craig
Sam suffered from major complications with his herniated disc surgery, which caused a cervical leak and a blood clot in his leg. Sam also had extreme complications from his 2nd surgery, causing bleeding and spinal fusion. Going into his 3rd surgery, Sam was very sick with an infection, which the doctors think was meningitis. There was a conversation with his anesthesiologist going into the 3rd surgery, that Sam may not survive. Thankfully, Sam did due by the grace of God!!
Sam has a long road ahead of him. Every doctor has said it could be 12-18 months for recovery. As of right now, Sam does not have feeling/movement from his lower chest down. He is continuing to strengthen his arms and hands. We are uncertain what the future holds for Sam and his mobility.
The decision was made a few days ago to send Sam to Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado to do his Inpatient Rehab. Michelle and Sam will leave this week for Denver. Craig is one of the best in the country, if not the world, for spinal cord rehabilitation. We want only the best for Sam during this crucial step of his healing process!! Sam’s family will be traveling back and forth to Denver during his inpatient rehab stay.
Please know the Smith's appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers! I know God has big plans for Sam in his recovery. The road to recovery is long, but Sam has the biggest support system with each one of you.
If you are unable to donate, please keep Sam and his family in your prayers as they navigate life's uncertainties.
Love,
The Nix Family
