My cousin, Karen Coats, and her son, Tyler were involved in a car accident on Oct. 25, 2019. The car was a total loss. Karen and Tyler both were transported to the hospital . Tyler was checked out and he was released the same night. Karen ended up in he hospital at Wake Forrest Baptist Hospital. Karen was found to have a lacerated spleen and multiple bruises. After several days, she was discharged from the hospital.
Once Karen was home, she became very weak and had no appetite. She fell at least two times and finally called her father to transport her back to the hospital. Karen was readmitted to Baptist hospital and after additional scans, it was noted that she had a laceration on her pancreas that was missed during her first hospitalization.
As of today, Nov. 24, 2019, Karen remains in the hospital. She is working with PT to gain strength and mobility. When she has improved enough, she will be moved to the Sticht Center a Baptist Hospital. There she will have intensive therapy in order to gain strength and mobility to be able to return home.
Karen is a kind and caring person. She always puts the needs of others before herself. She is a mother to 2 children, daughter, Jane and son, Tyler. Karen recently went through a divorce and is the only income for her family. Karen will be unable to return to work full-time for several months. She has used all of her sick and vacation time through her employer. Karen was recently informed that she does not have short term disability through her employer. Now is the time to show Karen that we have her back and are putting her needs first!
