Despite being a model tenant and always paying her rent on time for over a decade, Ashley has been the victim of criminal activity from her former landlord.

It's a bit of a long story but the situation is a snapshot of just how abusive the housing crisis has gotten for the vulnerable.

The owner of her former apartment building in Bridgeland allowed the property to fall into complete disrepair.

Nothing was getting fixed; the front door was smashed open, the heat wasn't working, plumbing was left broken, squatters were allowed to inhabit the units, violence, robbery, drugs, and even cockroaches became a part everyday of life. The police were called there almost every day and knew the place well.

It seemed like the company managing the building had been facilitating this state of affairs in order to push out the good tenants and turn the property into a drug flophouse.

Despite contacting AHS for help they were powerless to affect any change.

Eventually Ashley received a "termination of lease" notice giving her less than a week to move out, which isn't legally enough time.

She began the process of moving out but while she was away for a couple days her apartment was robbed. Many valuable and sentimental items were taken.

It's believed the property management facilitated the robbery because her door had been locked, which means whoever accessed her apartment had a key. We think this might have been an intimidation tactic.

So that's the story...

Ashley is now in a legal battle with her former landlord over these issues, but the lawyer fees are really expensive and she's already used up a good chunk of her savings. On top of that she's had to rent a storage trailer while she was looking for a new place to rent and buy furniture to replace what was stolen and vandalized.

This event is a fundraiser to hopefully help raise some funds to help with her fight and recover some of the losses from the robbery.
