My journey began on 12/4/24 when, after having what I thought was the flu for 2 weeks, it was decided that I needed to go to the hospital. Vince took me in, and within an hour of arriving, I was in surgery for gas pockets of infection in my pelvis. The doctor made 3 incisions in my pelvis. They found I had sepsis, E. coli bacteria, and pneumonia. My blood sugar was 795 and at coma level. I was tested for the next 24 hours by checking my blood every hour. I spent 15 days in the hospital and then transferred to a nursing home to let my wounds heal and learn how to walk again. During this time, I lost 60 pounds and was very weak. I got to come home on 1/17/25. With the help of nurses and physical therapy, I began to regain control of my health. Within 2 weeks of being home, I had a small wound open up in my pelvis area, and it began to drain. I went to the doctors, and they cultured it. It was partly the same infection I went to the hospital for in December. I took 10 days of antibiotics, and the wound continued to drain. I was making progress and doing well with walking with a cane and being able to take care of myself. On 3/14/25, I began throwing up again (just like in Dec). Vince took me to the emergency room again, where an MRI showed the infection was back and worse than ever. The hospital didn't have anyone that felt they could treat me, so I was transferred to Portland on 3/15. On 3/16, I had more surgery to clean up a massive infection that caused me to lose the part of my pelvic bone that protects my bladder. My blood pressure was out of control, and that really worried the doctors, but on 3/21, I got to go home. This time with an IV PICC line and antibiotics that had to be done 3 times a day for 6 weeks, and a very strong oral antibiotic. With Vince by my side, we did the 6 weeks of IVs and continued to recover. All of this time, I have not been able to work. I was finally released for very light duty on 5/14. I was doing in-home caregiving before all this started. There is no light duty in this job, and I am also on a cane. Until I get released for full duty and walk without a cane, I cannot go back to that job. I am looking for other jobs I can do, but as you can imagine, it is not easy. With me not being able to work for 7 months now, we are falling behind in paying bills and all that goes with it. This is not anything I thought I would ever have to do, but we are reaching out for help. If you can help in any way, we would greatly appreciate it. If not, we understand, but please keep us in your prayers and thoughts.
