Help Sam's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Everyone says to ask for help before things get out of hand. So here I am, asking for help on behalf of my family.
On the 8th of May 2015, 8 days before his 13th birthday, my little brother Sam was diagnosed with ALL - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
There were warning signs... including severe stomach pain (we thought he had appendicitis) and the doctors noted he had high levels of white blood cells, concluding he was simply fighting off an infection.
In the months following he had headaches, fatigue, nose bleeds, has constantly been sick, he has had severe chest pain, fever and swollen lymph nodes.
Over the past few months we have spent weeks in hospital, on and off. He has had to leave school, and go through rounds and rounds of chemo.. he's has had bone marrow taken, blood clots that run the length of his arm, and in his leg; viral infections, fevers, fatigue, nausea, and so forth.
You can imagine the toll this not only takes on him, but our family. The cost of medicine, paying for parking at the hospital, having the heater running non stop because sam cant regulate his own body temperature... the electricity bills that correpond to this, and ensuring his clothes, bedding, all rooms etc are always clean, because he has no immune system - we cant risk him getting sick.
I'm not trying to get your pity - its sad, yes. Its hard, fuck yes. But it is just something you do, because he is family, and hopefully by feb 2016 he will be well enough to start living a normal life.
Until then, we need a little help paying the bills. The extra living costs associated with cancer treatment are insane (one electricity bill alone was over $900... one lot of 'at-home' oral chemo is so much worse). We have applied for carers payment with centerlink, in hope it will relieve some of the financial pressure, but we are still jumping through hoops, and it doesn't look like we will be getting help from them.
If you'd like to help us pay off our electricity bills, and medical bills, please fund us. Any money left over will be donated to ward 3B in PMH, and will pay for entertainment for the kids. If not, then thank you for at least reading this post.
